Astana Medical University is a higher-education medical university situated in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. AMU was founded in 1964. In the old times, the University was named by many different names. In the year 1997, the university was named as Akmolinsk State Medical Academy. However, in 2009, the institute was renamed as Astana Medical University.

The formation of Astana Medical University was proposed by the Council of Ministers of the Republic. In the year 1964, the Council adopted the declaration for opening a Medical Institution in Tselinograd. In the year 1997, AMU was authorized as a medical academy. Later, in 2009, the Institute was rewarded the status of the University. AMU entered into the structure of the National Medical Holding by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Astana Medical University (AMU) is known as one of the biggest and the most dynamic medical universities in Kazakhstan. The University provides first-rate medical education with international curriculum and up-to-date infrastructure. The medical degrees like MBBS/MD acquired from Astana Medical University are authorized by the world’s top organizations like WHO, UNESCO, and MCI.

Astana Medical University is authorized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. There are various programs and courses offered in Astana Medical University that lead to accredited higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, and doctorate degrees in various areas of medical study. At present, there are over 700 faculty members working in Astana Medical University and over 3000 students are pursuing their medical degrees from Astana Medical University.

Several years back, AMU brought in credit system and three-tiered system of education with Bachelor, Masters, and PhD Degrees. The main clinical bases of the university are located at the biggest national and republican centers. Astana Medical University enjoys good relations with the top medical universities of many other countries including the US, Singapore, Europe, and Russia.
